Changing Seasons
If you haven’t noticed, there is a chill in the air these days. Days are getting shorter, leaves are beginning to turn color, and kids are back in school. The lazy days of summer have officially passed, and we are entering into the fall.
There was a time that the passage from summer to fall was quite traumatic for me. Summer was always my favorite season. It was the time to relax, travel, refresh, and just have a good time. Fall meant that we were getting back to business, and the fun was about to give way to normal schedules, school work, and an end to lazy days.
As I got older, I found that the transition from summer to fall was not quite such a cause for heartache but a time to celebrate. It is not that I stopped enjoying the lazy days of summer; it is that I began to appreciate every season of the year. Many times we go from one season of the year, and for that matter one season of life, to the other wishing for the last season. While focusing on the last season, we often miss what God is doing in this season.
This summer at St. Paul was marvelous. While some churches experience the “summer blues,” St. Paul was in the midst of a great season of worship, fellowship, and service. Throughout the summer, we had a great time at St. Paul just being the church. From the White Party worship service and after church cookout, to the ice cream social, to the youth doing evangelism in the neighborhood, to Men’s Day, the crab feast, and an awesome Vacation Bible School, St. Paul had an awesome summer. Along with all of the activities, we continued learning in Bible study, had great worship experiences, and lives continued to unite with Christ through St. Paul. We were truly Loving God, Loving People and Serving the World.
The shift in season does not mean a shift in focus or that the fun is over. During the month of October, we will continue to be about our Father’s business. Along with our Sunday morning worship and Wednesday evening Pastor’s Bible Study, this month we will celebrate St. Paul’s 224th Church Anniversary and Homecoming on Sunday, October 25. Our preacher for the morning worship will be the Rev. Dr. E Allen Stewart.
Leading into our Anniversary/Homecoming Celebration we will be in three days of revival from October 21-23 with guest preachers and choirs. It is going to be a spirit- filled occasion that you don’t want to miss. Save the date, and prepare to be renewed, revived and uplifted.
Fall is a new season, but we will continue to do the same things, Love God, Love People, and Serve the World!
The blessings of the Lord be with you,
Rev
